Ravelry app · the honest answer

Looking for a Ravelry app?

Ravelry doesn't make one. If what you want is your stash, your pattern PDFs, and your projects on your phone, Purlsona does that, and it reads the stash export Ravelry already gives you.

Free to use. Not affiliated with Ravelry.

The short answer

No app from Ravelry. A clear path for what you actually wanted.

There is no official Ravelry app

Ravelry is a website. On a phone you use it in the browser. The apps you'll find in the app stores that mention Ravelry are made by other companies and connect to it for specific jobs, like reading a pattern or counting rows.

What people usually mean

Searching for a Ravelry app almost always means one of four things: my stash on my phone, my pattern PDFs on my phone, my project notes on my phone, or a row counter that doesn't lose its place.

What Purlsona is

A free app for the making part: yarn stash, pattern library with counters, projects, and a streak that keeps you knitting. It isn't Ravelry and isn't affiliated with it. It does read the stash export Ravelry gives you.

What moves over

What comes with you from Ravelry, and what doesn't.

Ravelry lets you take your stash. It doesn't let you take much else. Here is the honest list, so there are no surprises after you sign up.

Yarn stash
Yes
Export your stash from Ravelry as .xls and upload it. Brand, colorway, weight, yardage, dye lot, storage, purchase info, and notes come across. Duplicates are skipped. How the stash import works.
Purchased pattern PDFs
Yes, by hand
Download each PDF from your Ravelry library, then upload it to your Purlsona pattern library. There's no bulk pull from Ravelry; Ravelry doesn't offer a library export. About the pattern library.
Projects and notes
No
Ravelry doesn't export projects. Start your active WIPs fresh in Purlsona; finished projects stay on Ravelry.
Friends, groups, forums
No
Communities don't transfer. Purlsona has its own feed and groups; your Ravelry friends are still on Ravelry.

On your phone

The four things you wanted the app for.

Purlsona is built around the making, not the browsing. Every one of these works on a phone today.

Stash in your pocket

Search by brand, weight, or colorway in the yarn shop instead of guessing what's at home. Remaining yardage, dye lots, and photos included.

Patterns with counters beside them

Open a PDF, highlight your row, and run named counters next to it. Linked repeat counters and row alerts handle the shaping math.

Projects that remember where you were

Progress, notes, linked yarn, and a session timer. Put a project down for a week and pick it up where you left it.

Works in your browser today

Purlsona runs in your phone's browser with nothing to install. Sign in and everything syncs across your phone, tablet, and computer.

FAQ

Ravelry app questions, answered straight.

Is there an official Ravelry app?

No. Ravelry has never released an official app for iOS or Android. The site works in a mobile browser, and Ravelry maintains a directory of third-party apps that use its API for specific tasks.

Can I use Ravelry on my phone?

Yes, through the browser. You can add Ravelry to your home screen as a bookmark, but it's still the website, not an app with offline storage or notifications.

Does Purlsona connect to my Ravelry account?

No. Purlsona never asks for your Ravelry login. You download your own stash export from Ravelry and upload the file yourself. Nothing on your Ravelry account changes.

Can I import my Ravelry pattern library into Purlsona?

Not in one step. Ravelry doesn't offer a library export, so there's no file to upload. You can download each purchased PDF from Ravelry and add it to your Purlsona pattern library like any other PDF.

Can I import my Ravelry projects?

No. Ravelry doesn't export project data. Most people start their current works in progress fresh in Purlsona and leave their finished-object history on Ravelry.

Is Purlsona a replacement for Ravelry?

It's a different kind of thing. Ravelry is a pattern database and community. Purlsona is an app for the making itself: stash, patterns with counters, projects, and streaks. Plenty of people use both.

Is Purlsona affiliated with Ravelry?

No. Purlsona is an independent app and has no relationship with Ravelry. Ravelry is a trademark of its owner.

Is Purlsona free?

Yes. The stash tracker, Ravelry stash import, pattern library, row counters, and project tracking are free with an account.

Export it from Ravelry, upload it here, and keep making with your patterns and counters beside it.
